Hearing a petition against notice on imposition of tax on Skylight Hospitality- a company promoted by Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s son-in-law Robert Vadra, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has directed the authorities to not to pass any order till next date of hearing fixed for April 4.
The company had informed the High Court that Haryana Excise and Taxation department had not provided documents on the basis of which it issued notice for evasion of VAT in October 2015 on the ground that it had sold the license of 3.5 acre land in village Shekhopura village in Gurgaon to DLF.
The counsel for the company argued before the court that after the notice was served, representations to the department were made to provide record on the basis of which assessment was made. However, it failed to get the requisite documents and department initiated further proceedings without supplying the same.
The petitioner has also accused Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Haryana of “systematic vendetta” against one of the directors. The firm has termed VAT notice as part of vendetta and based on “wrong facts” and “perverse interpretation” of law and facts.
