The Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) has achieved a major breakthrough by apprehending a gang of criminals involved in tampering with meters with highly-sophisticated devices in operation circle Jhajjar.
Giving information, Managing Director, UHBVN, Nitin Yadav, said that a special operation team led by Executive Engineer, Operations, Bahadurgarh, S.G. Vats checked premises, detained the accused and seized meters.
The operation was monitored by Superintending Engineer, Operation Circle, Sonepat with the help of local police.
Yadav said that the gang was led by Surender Kumar, a resident of Line Paar Basti, Bahadurgarh and included Parvesh and Naveen Kumar, both residents of Bahadurgarh.
Yadav said that the accused would damage the accumulated meter reading using UV rays and stop the reading by inserting an external device. He added that they would also change the three phase supply by connecting the load to direct supply and change it back to three phase supply at the time of meter reading.
He said that so far the losses are estimated to the tune of Rs 15 lakh and these are likely to be much higher after further interrogation.
Appealing to the consumers to not to indulge in such activities, Yadav said that violations would attract legal action and heavy penalties. He said that he had already issued directions in all the operation circles of the Nigam to intensify the campaign to check the menace of pilferage of power and unauthorised use of electricity.
