It was a different kind of show in the lush green lawns of Chandigarh Club on Sunday evening. The women walked in a ramp show with baby bump. It surely depicted that scenario has changed and now pregnancy is celebrated.
Panchkula based Dentist Dr Shruti Manocha won Maternity Queen -2015 title in ‘Ramp Walk with baby bump’ show for would-be Moms organised by Bedi Hospital. Tanya stood out to be runners up while second runners up was Harpreet.
Motherhood is a challenging task. And it surely calls for a little bit of celebration. Like a ‘ramp walk with baby bump’ a show held at the Chandigarh Club. The show was organised by the doctor couple – one an obstetrician and other a paediatrician – Dr Ramneek Singh Bedi and Dr Mrs GK Bedi of Bedi Hospital to mark the completion of 16 years of their mission – Safe-Mother-Safe Child and Healthy Families – to highlight all aspects of maternity in a fun-filled manner.
“Notably, this unique mom & baby’s day out in season 2 highlights the role of families with mom in laws walking the ramp with their daughter in laws. The event is in its second year after a stupendous success last year”, said Dr Ramneek Bedi, CEO and Director Bedi Hospital.
With a baby bump of seven months, Aradhya, from Sector 47 said, “I have been sleepless for the last seven months because we had a premature delivery last time. I was shifted to PGI in the middle of night. The baby needed ventilator which was not available, now we have chosen a centre where facilities for both mother and child are available, this outing was an out-of-the-world experience.” A husband had an interesting story to share on stage, “My wife Anjali woke me up in the middle of the night around 3 AM and asked me to take her to a chaat paapdi stall.”
Explaining about the concept, Dr RS Bedi said, “Motherhood is the most fulfilling, yet a very serious business and it starts before conception. Even a little negligence can ruin this great experience.”
During the show, exciting contests and ramp walks for Maternity Queen Pageant, Mom and Baby shows (Chandigarh Prince & Princess), kids’ activities, customised baby product displays were held. This was interspersed with expert talks on pre-natal genetic screening, umbilical cord cell banking by wellness partner Cryobanks, an awareness programme by Rotary Central Chandigarh, avoiding caesarean, choosing the right maternity centre, yoga, exercises and skin care in pregnancy, baby-care, infertility, menopause, among other topics.
There have been around 250 contestants from tricity, and as far as Amritsar and Ludhiana participated.
While explaining to guests, Dr Mrs. GK Bedi said “Pregnancy is divided into three periods, pre-conception, antenatal and delivering a healthy child. We should match medical kundli and not janam patris! The antenatal period should have sessions for diet, exercises, smooth delivery guidelines, breast feeding and newborn care, as also timely ultrasounds.”
The Chief Guest on the occasion, SSP Sukhchain Singh Gill, while praising the concept, said, “This is indeed a unique endeavour. There was a time when all ladies were asked to keep our pregnancy secret till three months. But now the scenario has changed and I am happy that would-be parents are aware about the importance of each aspect of pregnancy.”
