Jammu panel loses president- secretary general posts in Chandigarh Press Club elections

In a major setback to Balwinder Singh Jammu panel, it lost both the important seats of President and Secretary General in elections of Chandigarh Press Club held on Sunday. While Jammu himself lost to Jaswant Singh Rana who was declared elected as president. He defeated incumbent Balwinder Singh Jammu by a margin of seven votes.

Elections to six of the nine posts of the governing council were held in which 426 voters out of the 576 cast their votes, Returning Officer Sham Singh said.

Sham Singh said three office-bearers from Jammu- Nalin panel won unopposed. They included Nalin Acharya as senior vice president, Sanjeev Mahajan as secretary and Dr. Joginder Singh as joint secretary (one).

For the post of Secretary General, Barinder Singh Rawat defeated senior journalist Sanjay Sharma from Jammu panel by 69 votes.

Archana Sethi (Jammu Panel) defeated Ruby Singh for the women reserved seat (Vice President – Woman) by a margin of 82 votes.

For Vice President II, Ramesh Handa won the seat by defeating Mr. Ishwar Dhyani (Jammu Panel) by 88 votes.

For treasurer, Rakesh Gupta (Jammu Panel)  defeated Deepender Thakur with a margin of 85 votes.

Vishal Monga (Jammu Panel) got elected for the post of joint secretary (two). He defeated Harminder Singh Nagpal by 126 votes, the highest margin in the election.

The election to the Press Club, established in 1980, is held annually and has been conducting since 1984 without a miss.
