HMT official commits suicide due to nonpayment of salary

In a tragic incident, a senior official of HMT Factory in Pinjore committed suicide by jumping from a water tank on Monday morning. According to available information, the deceased Kamaljeet Singh Nagi, Joint General Manager in HMT was upset due to non receipt of his salary for past several months.

The incident took place around 10.30 AM. Soon police was informed who sent the body for postmortem.

The incident took place at a time when members of HMT Employees body president Mohinder Singh and HMT Bachao Sanghartsh Samiti president Vijay Bansal were holding a meeting to discuss the strategy to hold protest against government decision of closure of the factory.

Later Vijay Bansal informed media persons that a protest march would be organised on Tuesday, which would start from HMT and would culminate at Vidhan Sabha where a memorandum would be given to the Haryana CM for Prime Minister of India against the decision. Bansal said that families of HMT employees, social organisations and various political parties had promised to participate in the march.

Mohinder Singh said that employees of HMT were forced to sell their belongings for their livelihood. The government should consider the plight of these employees.
