The Punjab and Haryana High Court has taken cognizance of news reports about rape with women at Murthal during Jat protests.
Justice N K Sanghi of the High Court has written to Acting Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court stating that the news reports in this regard reveal that such shameful acts had taken place.
It was rather more painful that the senior officials of police, instead of taking an action and investigating to look into the said incident, chose to advise the families to not to report the matter with police or any authority.
The High Court can’t be a spectator on such issues and such intervene and take the matter seriously, Justice Sanghi wrote, further adding that the matter requires a probe by country’s premier agency.
A section of media had reported that vehicles with women were reportedly stopped on the national highway near Murthal on Monday morning. They were dragged out of the cars and allegedly raped in nearby fields.
The news report stated that at least 10 women were sexually assaulted. The authorities however termed the incident as rumours and advised the families to not to report the matter ‘for the sake of their honour,’ the news reports alleged.
