Haryana will soon have Sports and Physical Fitness Authority for development of sports infrastructure and procurement of sports material and equipment.
A decision to constitute such an Authority was taken in a meeting of the State Cabinet, which met under the Chairmanship of Chief Minister, Manohar Lal on Wednesday.
It may be recalled that it had a mention in the Governor’s address in the budget session on March 9, 2015.
The Cabinet approved that the Haryana Sports and Physical Fitness Authority will be registered as a Society. It will encourage, promote and develop physical activity and sports in Haryana and develop quality sports infrastructure.
It will undertake conceptualization, planning, designing, executing, developing and construction of indoor and outdoor sports stadiums, playfields, multi-purpose halls, yoga and vyayamshalas, sports hostels and other sports infrastructure. It will also act as sports event management unit of the sports department; undertake or assist in research of studies in respect of physical activity and sports infrastructure.
Haryana Chief Minister, Manohar Lal while addressing a press conference in Chandigarh said that the authority would import high quality sports equipment and sports material, enter into rate contract for execution of civil works and maintenance rate contract for sports infrastructure. It will encourage the private sector to contribute financially to the development of sports infrastructure. It will provide assistance and take steps for the promotion and development of sports infrastructure of national and international standards in Haryana.
The authority will be headed by Chief Minister, Manohar Lal, as President and Sports and Youth Affairs Minister, Anil Vij would be its Vice President. The other members would include Finance Minister, Capt. Abhimanyu, Development and Panchayats Minister, Om Parkash Dhankar, Administrative Secretary, Finance, Sanjeev Kaushal, Administrative Secretary, Industries and Commerce, Devender Singh, Administrative Secretary, Panchayat and Development, Navraj Sandhu, Administrative Secretary, Urban Local Bodies, Dr Mahavir Singh, Administrative Secretary, Town and Country Planning, P. Raghavendra Rao, Administrative Secretary, Sports and Youth Affairs, Dr K. K. Khandelwal, Administrative Secretary, Public Works (Building and Roads), Hardeep Kumar. Director, Sports and Youth Affairs, Jagdeep Singh will be Member Secretary and Additional Director, Sports and Youth Affairs, O. P. Sharma would be Treasurer and Joint Secretary.
The society will have its registered office in Panchkula in the premises of Director of Sports and Youth Affairs and the Society would work within the territory of Haryana.
The Authority will have a four-member Executive Committee with Sports and Youth Affairs Minister as its Chairman. Administrative Secretary, Sports and Youth Affairs will be Vice Chairman.
Haryana Government has also constituted a four-member committee headed by the Chief Secretary to ensure that deserving sportspersons were not deprived of jobs in the State. Also, an integrated policy would soon be framed so that all sportspersons in Haryana could get facilities, including jobs, on the basis of their outstanding performance.
This was stated by Haryana Chief Minister, Manohar Lal while addressing a press conference in Chandigarh.
The Chief Minister said that the committee would prepare a detailed list of sportspersons who have been recruited or deprived of jobs under sports quota. The committee would also prepare a list of those sportspersons who had sought employment under sports quota, and whose cases are pending in court.
The Chief Minister said all players who have brought laurels to the state and nation should get similar facilities based on their achievements.
