Aimed at improving the sex ratio in the state, the Haryana Government has decided to crack the whip on those engaged or involved in illegal determination of sex, and sent word down the line that the administration in every district should work and act as a cohesive and well-knit unit to achieve the desired results.
This was disclosed by Dr Rakesh Gupta, Additional Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, while addressing Deputy Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners of Police, Superintendents of Police and Chief Medical Officers through a video conference here. He asked the Deputy Commissioners to designate an Assistant District Attorney in consultation with District Attorney in the districts to ensure better follow-up of cases registered under the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PC-PNDT) and Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) Acts in the state.
Reviewing the district-wise progress on the Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao Programme, he asked officers to strictly enforce the PC-PNDT and MTP Act to further improve the sex ratio in the state and lauded the role of the district administration in this field. The program is aimed at creating awareness for caring for the Girl Child.
Gupta stressed on the need for better coordination between DCs, SPs, Chief Medical Officers and District Attorneys to further intensify the campaign in the state.
Police officers were asked to ensure proper investigation into the cases registered under the Act, their follow-up and take them to their logical conclusion. The accused should be taken on police remand after registration of the case. Police should also investigate cases of unregistered ultrasound machines. Decoding of hard disk of ultrasound machines seized during the raids should also be ensured by the police.
Gupta asked the Health Department officers, especially the CMOs, to involve appropriate District Authority while conducting raids to check illegal determination of sex.
Gupta said that aiming to achieve a target of 950 plus sex ratio at birth by the end of the year, the Chief Minister has sought to coordinate efforts with the neighbouring states to check female foeticide. He suggested that to a Beti Bachao whatsapp group should be formed in every district to facilitate cross-learning.
