On the lines of Trekking in Sukhna Wildlife Sanctuary every month, Forest and Wildlife Department has started ‘Bicycling Activity’ in Chandigarh. The event will be organised every month to promote the bicycling activity amongst the public and to sensitize them about the need of the bicycling.
In this series, the first ‘Bicycling activity’ was conducted in collaboration with NGOs – Yuvsatta, Chandigarh and Go Green Cycling Club of India on Saturday in reserved forest area behind Sukhna Lake. The aim of this Bicycling activity was to spread the message of ‘Save Forest, Save Wildlife’ among various stakeholders of the society and to promote cycling in the city. Around 100 people participated in this event.
The cycle rally started from Smriti Van where it was flagged off by Vijay Kumar Dev, IAS, Advisor to the Administrator, Chandigarh. Vijay Dev himself led the volunteers of Go Green Cycling club and pedaled the cycling from his residence to Smriti van area behind Sukhna lake.
Speaking on the occasion, Vijay Dev said, with the specter of global warming and depletion of the ozone layer being attributed to environmental degradation, there is an urgent need to recognize and work for the preservation and conservation of environment. Dev emphasized the need for holding such type of cycle rallies on regular basis to create awareness amongst the people of Chandigarh so that cycling could become a habit for city residents. Cycling is healthy, environment friendly and convenient options for all of us, he said.
Among prominent persons attending the event were Santosh Kumar, IFS, Chief Conservator of Forests , Birendra Choudhary, IFS, DCF, Pradeep Bhagat, Principal, Architecture College, Sanjeev Sagar, President, Go Green cycling club and Pramod Sharma, coordinator, Yuvsatta.
