Advocates in Punjab to remained off work today on a call by Bar Council

To lodge the protest against in inaction by Fazilka police in a case of assault on Fazilka district bar president Parveen Kumar Dhanju allegedly by a local Shiromani Akali Dal leader on last Wednesday, the Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana (BCPH) has asked lawyers of district courts in Punjab to abstain from work on Tuesday.

Local SAD leader Gurwinder Singh on May 4 allegedly assaulted Dhanju, who was accompanied by his wife, at Guru Nanak Enclave locality.

BCPH chairman Rajat Guatam condemned the attack and alleged inaction by police, stating that despite registration of a case for attempt to murder, the police was hesitant to arrest the accused.

Rajat Guatam asked the lawyers to abstain from work in a peaceful manner.
