At least 8 people were injured in a bomb blast that took place in a Haryana roadways bus on Thursday afternoon. The blast took place in a running bus on its way from Delhi to Chandigarh.
The blast took place at Haryana Tourism’s resort Parakeet and the driver of the bus Sanjay, despite being injured, was efficient enough to stop the bus safely.
Later, Haryana Government constituted a 4-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by Additional Director General of Police, Crime, S. S. Kapoor to speedily and thoroughly investigate the three cases of explosion that have occurred in Kurukshetra on May 26,2016 and in Panipat on January 16 and May 13,2016.
Stating this in Chandigarh on Thursday, a spokesman of Haryana Police said that the other members of the SIT included Simardeep Singh, Superintendent of Police, Kurukshetra, Kuldeep Singh Yadav, Superintendent of Police, Railways, Ambala Cantt. and Arvind Hooda, AD Technical, CID.
The Haryana Police spokesperson said that the government has also decided to seek the help of National Investigation Agency (NIA) in investigation of the incident which occurred on Thursday and a case was registered at Police Station Sadar Thanesar, Kurukshetra. He said that in Thursday’s incident, First Information Report Number 256 dated May 26,2016 was registered under section 307 of Indian Penal Code, section 3.5 of Explosive Substances Act, section 4 of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property (PPDP) Act, section 16 of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act registered at Police Station Sadar Thanesar, Kurukshetra.
Referring to other two such incidents, he said that in another similar incident, First Information Report was registered on May 13,2016 under section 3 of Explosive Substances Act, section 4 of PPDP Act and section 16 of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, under section 151, 153 and 154 of Railways Act at GRPS, Panipat.
In third incident, First Information Report dated January 16,2016 was registered under section 427 and 336 of Indian Penal Code, section 3 of Explosive Substances Act, section 4 of PPDP Act, section 16 of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, section 151, 153 and 154 of Railways Act at GRPS, Panipat.
He said that the SIT might co-opt any gazetted or non gazetted officer from State Crime Branch, GRP and district police, Kurukshetra. He said that fortnightly progress report would be submitted to the Police Headquarters.
The Haryana Police spokesperson said that Transport Minister Krishan Lal Panwar visited LNJP Civil Hospital in Kurukshetra to enquire the well-being of those who were injured in explosion in a Haryana Roadways bus which was on way to Chandigarh from Sonepat. As many as eight passengers were injured in the explosion. He said that the state government would give a financial assistance of Rs 50,000 to each of the injured in the incident. He also wished them speedy recovery. He appreciated the manner in which the driver and conductor of the bus helped the injured and said that letters of appreciation would be given to both of them for the act of their bravery.
