Hearing a contempt plea filed by an NGO alleging non-compliance of court orders, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has issued notice to Haryana government.
Ludhiana based NGO Anti Corruption Federation of India had stated that on January 11, 2013, the HC had ordered the Haryana government to take action against those involved in violence during the 2010 Jat agitation. The petitioner alleged that the government did not take action as per the court’s direction. Had the action been taken, the current situation in the state could have been avoided ,which resulted in loss of lives and property during the recent Jat quota agitation in Haryana, the petitioner alleged.
The petitioner further argued that the state also did not act as per the Supreme Court directions on destruction of public and private property during the violence last month, despite the fact that it had assured the court in 2013, for taking preventive measures for such future agitations.
Justice Rajesh Bindal has sought responses of Haryana chief secretary, DS Dhesi and DGP YP Singal by April 1.
During the Jat protests in Haryana, mass destruction was reported at various places and private and public properties were damaged by the protesters.
